Best Android apps fullstop.

Airwire is a media casting solution that just works. Really well.

This one is relatively new, after trying so many of these apps in an attempt to capture footage of my GTRacing2 sessions. I found that most require root access, some say they don’t but they actually do and the rest are just plain rubbish and do nothing.

Unlimited screen recorder has lifted my cynicism by actually achieving what it claims to do. Without root I might add.

Pulse has always been the best for me, especially as of late there has not been continous internet so I just love the way once u select ur sources and let it retrieve the content, Pulse is the only one I’ve found that allows you to read offline. Recently became LinkedIn Pulse adding a new social account option for sharing with members of LinkedIn, though it didn’t seem useful to me so I stick to standard Facebook Login.
The sheer amount of content available on a single screen is staggering, on any size of screen. Definately function over form as the interface is somewhat bland. A ‘Theme’ section would benefit greatly here as the actual news, the reason for using Pulse, is here in spades.

Recently after reading issue 32 of Android Magazine’s App reviews, I decided to give Feedly a shot at upsetting the monotony of Pulse’s boxes (I’d been seeing them a couple of hours a day for three or four years by this point).
No offline reading here either, that’s the first thing I noticed, I’m still using it now after a couple of weeks though. Not sure if that’s because I like it or because Android Magazine do.

The interface is decent enough, maybe a little confusing at times swiping the wrong way can totally lose your place and its VERY hard to find again if you don’t bookmark every single page u start reading. The worst aspect of this if you have read some of an article, this article is often marked as read and if you click a link in the article it opens in its own unreliable browser type window fine. Press your Back Key though thinking you will go back into your article? Wrong, you are back at the list of articles and what you were reading is often lost forever. If you leave Feedly’s main screen and return to it (aka multitask), you then have to reload the entire App. To its reprieve, I like how I can strike through pages of articles to mark as read if the titles fail to draw me in.
Slightly disappointing.

Google Current’s was excellent in everyway, as most of their products are but the same problems as Feedly, minus the multitasking issue. The Newsstand app looks much the same, brightened up by the Play Music colour scheme its a little more pleasing to the eye. More to come on Newsstand.

Flipboard I tried briefly, great GUI and great looking smooth transitions between articles. I found myself to be rattling through it though like the articles were short and slightly uninteresting. More sauce than substance is a phrase that springs to mind. It may have improved a lot in the year or so I’ve avoided it

At the present I use Android Central and Smartwatch Fans, Pulse and Google Currents occasionally. The main reason for that being these are the best of the few that allow at least some offline reading, Pulse equally for the sheer amount of content it presents without looking cluttered or clumsy.
